ASAE Announces 2004 Associations Advance America Award Winners

Five associations have been honored with an Award of Excellence in the third and final round of judging in the 2004 Associations Advance America (AAA) Awards program, conducted by ASAE.

Now in its 14th year, the AAA Awards recognize associations and industry partners that advance American society with innovative programs in education, skills training, standard setting, business and social innovation, knowledge creation, citizenship and community service.

Selected by a panel of peers three times a year, Award of Excellence winners are automatically entered into consideration for the Summit Award, ASAE’s highest association honor. Summit Award winners are honored at ASAE’s Summit Awards Dinner, to take place Oct. 5, 2004, in Washington, DC.

The following programs were honored with a 2004 AAA Award of Excellence:

American Trucking Associations
Program: Highway Watch

Central Florida Hotel & Lodging Association
Program: CFHLA “Hospitality Challenge” Blood Drive

National Association for Search and Rescue
Program: NASAR Code of Ethics

Ohio Restaurant Association
Program: Ladders to Success

Professional Lawn Care Association of America
Program: Renewal and Remembrance Arlington Cemetery Project

John Graham, CAE, to Participate in Charitable Governance Roundtable

ASAE President and CEO John H. Graham IV, CAE, will participate in a July 22 roundtable to comment on a discussion draft regarding proposed reforms of tax-exempt organizations prepared by Senate Finance Committee staff. The discussion draft was prepared in connection with the Finance Committee’s hearing last month and continued interest in charity oversight and reform.

Some of the recommendations in the discussion draft include: increasing the liability of board members responsible for charity oversight; implementing 5-year reviews of an organization’s tax-exempt status by the IRS; improving the quality and scope of the Form 990 return and financial statements; and imposing a filing fee on organizations that file Form 990. Susan Sarfati, CAE, Named to "Top 25" List by Meeting News Magazine

Susan Sarfati, CAE, President and CEO of The Center for Association Leadership and Executive Vice President, ASAE, has been named one of the meetings industry’s “25 Most Influential People” by Meeting News magazine.

This is the 10th year Meeting News has recognized the 25 individuals who have the greatest impact on the most people in the business. Sarfati was cited as a “driving force” behind the merger between ASAE, the ASAE Foundation, the Greater Washington Society of Association Executives (GWSAE) and The Center for Association Leadership that became official June 30.
