FCC Update: Fax Communications Regulations

With the Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) proposed new regulations governing fax communications to take effect on July 1, 2005, ASAE and the Fax Ban Coalition remain confident that another stay of the controversial rules will be granted sometime in the few weeks.

ASAE and the Fax Ban Coalition filed a new six-month extension request with the FCC on April 15, and recent discussions with FCC staff suggest the commission will grant the stay, which would give Congress through the end of the year to pass corrective legislation.

ASAE and the Coalition are working closely with the Senate to seek final passage of S. 714, the "Junk Fax Prevention Act of 2005." The bill passed the Senate Commerce Committee on April 14, and once the committee report is filed, it will be readied for Senate floor action.
