Fax Issue Update
There is positive movement on the Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) proposed new regulations governing fax communications, still due to take effect July 1.
The Senate Commerce Committee report on S. 714, the "Junk Fax Prevention Act of 2005," was filed June 7, meaning the bill could soon be passed out of the Senate.
Additionally, it is ASAE's understanding that the FCC has begun the process of circulating a six-month extension request filed by ASAE and The Fax Ban Coalition back in April, and that the Commission will act upon that request shortly.
ASAE and the Coalition have also resumed talks with key House Energy and Commerce Committee staff to discuss appropriate steps to expedite the fax bill in the House once it passes the Senate. Should you have any questions on this issue, please contact Chris Merida, cmerida@asaenet.org.
