"CEO of Self" with Herman Cain
With more than 35 years of executive experience in some of America’s most prominent organizations including Godfather’s Pizza and the National Restaurant Association, Herman Cain has dedicated his career to raising the bar of achievement in the business world. A compelling voice of common sense, Cain will show you how you can inspire extraordinary achievement in others by identifying and removing the obstacles that keep people from being self-motivated. This message is for anyone who is, or desires to be, a leader.

"A World of Difference: How Understanding Women Boosts Business and Makes Work More Fun" with Marti Barletta
Female consumers are the chief purchasing officers of most U.S. households–including for traditionally male categories such as financial services, home improvement, cars, computers and consumer electronics. And women entrepreneurs have been starting seven-out-of 10 small businesses for the last decade. Plus, studies show that women in the workplace achieve superior skill ratings and deliver greater sales and profits. Smart companies are learning there’s a gigantic opportunity to beat their competition and strengthen their internal cultures by better understanding women. This presentation will give you a humorous perspective on the differences in male and female gender culture, eye-opening insights on their respective language and customs and plenty of practical “how to” pointers that will improve your results with your customers, interactions with your co-workers and even your patience with your spouse!

Extreme Thinking with Malcolm Gladwell–Tuesday, August 16, 9:00–10:30 a.m.
He gave us The Tipping Point. Now he gives us Blink. In our closing general session ASAE & The Center for Association Leadership give you Malcolm Gladwell, author, journalist and one of the most original thinkers of our time.

Blink–Gladwell's brand-new bestseller–is about rapid cognition. It describes the snap decisions and rapid judgments humans make, often at a subconscious level; and it shows how those decisions may be as important and valuable as any other.

Fascinating? Yes. Relevant to association executives? Even more so. Gladwell's insights may change the way you look at decision making, advocacy, technology and networking forever.

Connect with Your Colleagues Before Arriving in Nashville!

At any conference, the ability to meet fellow attendees is every bit as important as the education, social events and business conducted on the trade show floor. That’s why we have partnered with Members Online to provide the Connections Network System for this year’s Xtreme Annual Meeting & Exposition. This new software enables you to interact with the community of association professionals with similar interests before, during and after the event!

This unique opportunity is available exclusively to those registered for the 2005 Annual Meeting & Exposition.  So don’t delay!  Within one week after you register for the Annual Meeting & Exposition, you'll receive an electronic invitation with instructions on how to join the connections network.

You can choose from keywords that will be used to match you to other attendees. Once completed you can then search for other attendees who may have similar careers, are from the same geographic region, or have the same personal interests. Whether you are looking for someone to share ideas with about membership retention, technology, governance or other association topics, or searching for a new business partner, the Connections Network can help you maximize your networking within the ASAE & The Center for Association Leadership community.

And, once you complete your online profile you will be entered into a drawing to win one of the following fabulous prizes:

  • Complimentary airfare, hotel and registration for the 2006 Annual Meeting & Exposition in Boston, August 19-22, 2006.
  • Your choice of a Blackberry or iPod.  (Five winners will be drawn for this prize).

Meetings & Expositions (M&E) Days

Today, meeting professionals are being asked, and expected to, stretch beyond their logistical background and think more strategically as marketers, business managers, sales professionals and executive administrators.  This is the reason ASAE & The Center’s Meetings and Expositions Section Council (M&E Council) decided to provide the industry with senior-level educational programming.  Over the past several years, M&E Days has served CEOs, executive directors and senior level meeting planners.

Through surveys with executive directors and CEOs, it was determined that they were looking for a great deal more than simple logistics expertise in their meetings area.  Therefore, the M&E Council established a competency level to meet these demands: 1) Meeting Logistics, 2) Business Management, 3) Strategic Thinking, 4) Branding, Marketing and Sales and 5) Leadership & Communication.  Our education for the M&E Days program is concentrated in these areas.  All sessions for M&E Days have been tagged as which competency they relate to in addition to the CAE Domain.

This year, we bring you two additional top thought leaders: Marks Sanborn, whose most recent book The Fred Factor: How Passion in Your Work and Life can Turn the Ordinary into the Extraordinary is an international bestseller and continues to be on both the Wall Street Journal and BusinessWeek's bestseller lists and Colin Reed, president & CEO, Gaylord Entertainment.  In between these two, we have mixed association and meeting professionals to share their experiences.

We hope you enjoy this program, and that you will continue to challenge us and the M&E Council to provide excellent relevant education that supports you.  To view the M&E Days schedule, click here.

M&E Days is sponsored by Universal Orlando and Green Valley Ranch Resort & Spa.
