Our New Website is Live!
Dear colleague:
We invite you to experience www.asaecenter.org, the new, comprehensive online resource for the entire association community!
From membership and marketing to finance and HR, if you're like most of us in association management, you wear a lot of different hats. That's why we have totally re-imagined ASAE & The Center's websites, combining them into a powerful new tool designed to help you meet the challenges you face every day.
As you explore the site further, you'll discover a more intuitive layout designed to connect you quickly to thousands of association leadership and management resources. The journey to this point has involved hundreds of members, staff and experts. We asked members of the association community from Connecticut to California how we could create a better web experience for our stakeholders.
We are confident you will find the site both user-friendly and rich with content from the first click. Even with these improvements, the journey toward an ever better web experience will continue, with significant new functionality being rolled out over the next year as it is developed and tested. Among the key features you will find on the site now and over the next few months are…
- Resource pages organized around the sub-specialty areas of association management;
- Improved search and navigation functions;
- More intuitive user interface;
- Universal, one-time log-in for all activities;
- Comprehensive calendar of events; and
- Updated e-commerce functionality.
We look forward to hearing from you as you become more familiar with this powerful new tool. As with any new website, we also recognize that there will be occasional glitches and changes that need to be made along the way and we want to hear about those too. Click on this link to give us your feedback, and thank you for visiting www.asaecenter.org!
Sincerely,

John H. Graham IV, CAE Susan Sarfati, CAE President & CEO, ASAE President & CEO, The Center for Association Leadership Executive Vice President, ASAE

ASAE Submits Testimony on Lobbying Reform for House Rules Hearing
ASAE President and CEO John H. Graham IV, CAE, submitted testimony for the record for a House Rules Committee hearing last week on lobbying reform.
The hearing was the second in as many weeks for the committee chaired by Rep. David Dreier (R-CA) and charged with drafting new rules to increase transparency and accountability in lobbying practices on the Hill. Like the Senate, which may be closer to passing legislation, the House is considering a number of reforms aimed at increasing the frequency of lobbying disclosures; limiting earmarks, used by lawmakers to designate funding for pet projects in the appropriations process; banning gifts, including possibly meals; and restricting privately funded congressional travel.
On that last issue, the House has reportedly been considering a moratorium on privately funded travel, allowing time for development of a pre-approval system for congressional visits to meetings or programs outside Washington, DC.
In its testimony for the record, ASAE said Congress should not lose sight of the value of travel by elected officials and their staff to meetings and conferences for educational purposes. Congress is “on the right track” in considering a pre-screening process for congressional travel, Graham stated, and should only consider a travel moratorium a temporary solution. “An extended moratorium on privately funded travel would without a doubt be a ‘lose-lose’ outcome for Congress and for the association sector,” Graham said.
